Tips for new Iskolar ng Bayan
So you’ve passed the UPCAT and decided to take the challenge of becoming an Iskolar ng Bayan.
In the upcoming semesters, you will realize the harsh realities of studying in the country’s national university, why thousands aspire to be in UP, and why some avoid it like the plague.
“But I passed UPCAT,” you say. What else could be harder, right?
Apparently, your stay in the university will be.
Do not fret, however, as kind souls trooped to Twitter to share what new UP students should know.
Behold the hashtag #tipsforupfreshies.
Started by Prof. Eloi Hernandez in 2011 (read how it started here), #tipsforupfreshies became the standard of online tip-sharing for freshmen and inspired spin-offs by other universities.
“I got tweets from kids asking me to start the hash tag again this year, that they’ve been waiting for it and excited to participate,” Hernandez told Fullcourtfresh.com via email.
Hernandez also noted that while less tips were shared compared to last year’s Twitter fest, this years tips ”have more ‘shelf-life.’ I don’t know how to call it, I just mean it’s around longer now as in people are still posting about it.”
For the professor who aptly goes by the Twitter handle @badassprof, the hashtag experience has been “ still fun & educational. I learned a lot about UP and UP students.”
So we at Fullcourtfresh.com dug up tweets as far as May 17, 2011 to look for the best #tipsforupfreshies we could find, in case you missed them last month. Most of them were replies to @badassprof’s call for tips.
We also believe that you should practice reading long pieces, so treat this compilation as an exercise. Our most favorite tip is the last one so read the whole thing. This is training! Masanay na rin kayo sa wikang Filipino.

PS: Madalas walang pasok sa unang araw/linggo ng klase. Pero papasok pa rin kayo sa UP para lang mapatunayan ito.
