The Philippines fell to 0-2 in Group B of the FIBA Basketball World Cup after losing to wildcard Greece, 70-82, Monday (Philippines time) in Seville, Spain.

Greece led by as much as 17 points in the third quarter, but the Philippines fought back to bring the score to 38-48 after a Ranidel De Ocampo jumper. Andray Blatche helped scoring with 9 points in the same period. The period ended with a block and a tip in by Junemar Fajardo to keep the Filipinos at 45-58 against the taller Greeks.

Gilas opened the fourth quarter with a Jeff Chan triple, sending the score to 48-58. Marc Pingris worked hard under the basket to keep the Greek lead at 60-50, but a Giorgios Printezis jumper and a Kostas Vasileiadis triple pushed the lead further to 15 points.

Pingris and Paul Lee combined yet for a deuce and a trey towards the last three minutes, but it was a case of too little, too late as Greece kept the pressure on defense.

The Philippines refused to give up as Japeth Aguilar, L.A. Tenorio, and Fajardo mustered 7 points to bring the final score to 70-82.

Gilas Pilipinas will battle powerhouse Argentina next on Monday night.
