In what could have been Emilio Aguinaldo College’s final basketball game in the country’s oldest collegiate league, the decimated and battered Generals took the court one last time in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 90 seniors tournament with a shorthanded lineup.

The five-man wrecking crew made one last gallant stand to salvage some pride in a rollercoaster final probationary membership year in the league, but eventually fell to San Sebastian College, 107-73, in Monday’s action at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Stags – who refused to call a timeout in the game, and instead played its entire 14-man roster – started off strong with a 35-18 first quarter with Jovit de la Cruz piling on 12 of his team-high 16.

Their advantage only grew larger, reaching its peak at 44 at the end of the third period, 92-48, on a 23-9 run early in the second half.

San Sebastian Head Coach Topex Robinson lauded the five on the floor for EAC, but stressed that they were in a tight bind as the match was a sensitive issue for his team.

“[EAC] played their basketball and I couldn’t commend them more by just giving up a giving up a good fight,” said Robinson. “I was a bit cautious on this game. I assessed the scenario. But we had to just play our basketball.”

Ex-Jose Rizal University guard Ivan Camasura added 13 points, while CJ Perez and Spencer Pretta fired 11 markers apiece.

Jerald Serrano flew EAC’s flag with 20 points and nine rebounds, followed by Al-Rashid Indin’s 17 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.

The other men left on the active roster for the Gerry Esplana-mentored squad were Christ Mejos (14 points), Jozhua General (11 points), and Faustine Pascual (11 points).

The result pushed San Sebastian to a 5-11 (won-lost) record, while giving EAC a 4-14 (won-lost) finish to their campaign – a far cry from their 10-8 finish last season.
